Manchester City striker Ruben Sobrino spent the last season on loan at Spanish second division side Girona.

The Spanish forward missed the majority of last season due to injury, but has been reportedly attracting interest from Stoke City, Genoa, Real Betis and Deportivo La Coruna.

Sobrino, however, is now close to signing for La Liga side Alaves on loan, reports Spanish newspaper Marca.

It is reported Manchester City wanted Sobrino to extend his loan spell at Girona, with whom they have a partnership, but the player was keen on playing for a first division club. Which is fair enough.

Frankly, interest from Stoke City never made any sense, and a move to a second division Spanish club or a smaller side in La Liga always looked likely.

The 24-year-old has 2 goals and 3 assists to his name last season, and signed for Manchester City at the start of last season.
