Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is close to signing a new deal with the club, according to reports from the Brazilian media today.
Globo Esporte writes that negotiations have now ‘advanced’ and ‘everything indicates’ the player’s stay at the Premier League side will be announced in the coming days.
It’s claimed that Manchester City contacted Fernandinho for a new deal before the Champions League final. The player asked the club to wait until the game against Chelsea, and only then start talks.
The negotiation happened for the past few weeks, and with a happy ending for both parts, the 36-year-old is now set to sign a one-year extension with the club.
Since Fernandinho was about to become a free agent, as his current contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the month, he had been linked to several clubs, especially from Brazil.
Only one side are named in Globo Esporte, which is his former club Athletico Paranaense. Globo Esporte says his return could now happen in 2022.
