Now that Manchester City’s interest in the Sporting youngster Rafael Leão has become a solid story, the Portuguese press won’t miss a chance to write about it.

On Tuesday, newspaper Record reports Pep Guardiola’s side have sent scouts to watch the match between Tondela and Sporting on Monday night.

So they’ve made the simple equation of Manchester City + Sporting = Rafael Leão, and wrote a few words about the case.

They recall that City are keeping an eye on Leão, and Sporting are trying to protect the player by raising his release clause, which is already €45m.

On Monday, Record had already claimed that Manchester City have been sending officials to Portugal so they could have ‘informal’ talks about the player. But this time, they don’t say those watching the match were there for talks.

Rafael Leão was in the stands, as he wasn’t called for the match-day squad, so it’s all slightly strange. As Record doesn’t even guess who the City scouts would be watching in this case, this could even sound like a missed trip.
