Turkish website Asist Analiz have exclusively reported Manchester City sent a scout to Turkey to watch Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir last weekend, when his side beat Fenerbahce 2-1.
Cakir has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with clubs like Leicester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley all being linked in the past ten days.
However, despite Manchester City’s interest in Cakir, the Turkish website’s Trabzonspor journalist, Haluk Ayyildiz, claims the most concrete offer has come from Tottenham.
There were also reports last week that Liverpool have made an offer for the youngster ahead of the summer window.
It’s claimed Real Madrid and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on Cakir, but it’s reported Tottenham are currently leading the race.
The Turkish international has made 26 appearances for the Trabzon club this season, and is under contract until June 2024.
Given the suggested price is above €25m, these claims of interest are curious. Paying such an amount for a second choice goalkeeper has to be unlikely, and it wouldn’t do Cakir any favours to sit on the bench.
This may well be the player’s agents or Trabzonspor trying to inflate the market ahead of a summer exit to a more realistic destination.
