Manchester City have opened talks to renew the contract of Bernardo Silva, according to the Portuguese press today.
Newspaper Jornal de Notícias says the club want to ‘repay’ the good form the midfielder has been having, and are set to make him one of the best paid athletes in the squad.
The outlet says the talks are ‘in good rythm’, being handled by Jorge Mendes, and a deal should be announced in the next few weeks or at the end of the season in case Manchester City go further in the Champions League.
It’s claimed that Bernardo Silva currently makes €500k per month, and will have this amount ‘substantially’ increased.
Another reason why Manchester City want to give the midfielder a new contract is to keep away some interested clubs, such as Real Madrid.
Signed from Monaco on a €50m deal in 2017, Bernardo Silva currently has a contract which runs until 2022.
The Portuguese international has eight goals and seven assists in 36 appearances for the club this season.
