It’s all moving very quickly in Manchester.
After the news that Bernardo Silva was on the verge of signing for Manchester City, it appears that Pep Guardiola has targeted more than one Monaco player this summer, with Benjamin Mendy also very high on his priority list.
Reporting the news are RMC Sport, who claim the Citizens are ready to put a €45m offer on the table for the flying left-back, who was played a key role in the Premier League club’s exit from the Champions League.
José Mourinho had made it clear a few times this season that Luke Shaw is some way off meeting his expectations at Old Trafford, and buying someone this summer for the role is a real possibility.
Furthermore, Liverpool are also prepared to match the €45m Manchester City are ready to offer, having played James Milner in the role all season, which was always going to be nothing more than a stop gap.
After all, a natural player in that role, and one capable of attacking much like Nathaniel Clyne does down the right, would be far more suited for what Jürgen Klopp is trying to achieve at Anfield.
Finally, Chelsea are also on the case, although after their season, and how well Marcos Alonso has done down the left under Antonio Conte, you would think that position is far from a priority for the Blues.
Nevertheless, don’t put it past Roman Abramovich to shell out a lot of money to keep his new favourite manager at Stamford Bridge, even if it means putting €45m on a player who would rotate with the Spaniard.
Recently, in an interview with Onze Mondial, Benjamin Mendy made it clear that his career goal is to become the best left-back in the world.
Moving to any of these clubs would certainly be a step in that direction, and, at 22, he still has a huge amount of time to achieve it.
