Manchester City, having lost Vincent Kompany, owning a disgruntled Nicolas Otamendi and trying to get rid of Eliaquim Mangala, will need a new centre-back this summer.
The player doesn’t have to be a guaranteed starter, since the pair going forward is likely to be Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, but he needs to be a good passer of the ball and capable of stepping in when needed.
That’s why Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi is an ideal candidate for the role, at least according to Bild in Germany.
The outlet claim to have learned that, as well as Juventus and Arsenal, Manchester City have ‘put out feelers via star coach Pep Guardiola for the centre-back’.
In fact, they even claim that ‘according to the English media’, an offer of €35m is in the works.
The problem is, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
No articles have been published in England (as far as we can see) claiming this, and even Twitter is a barren wasteland when it comes to Manchester City and Elvedi.
The 21-year-old is contracted to Gladbach until 2021, meaning that if the Bundesliga side cannot get him to renew, they’ll have to sell him either this summer or the next.
The Premier League champions might be interested (they were already linked back in February), but it’s not as prevalent as Bild make it out to be.
At least, not on this side of the Channel.
