Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi has his name all over the Argentina sport media today, since a return to River Plate has been put on the table.
It all started with a picture published by Martin Sendoa, where the two of them are in front of Estádio Monumental in Buenos Aires.
Presented by the media as his representative, Sendoa has publicly spoken about a possible move to the Millonario in an interview with TyC’s Sportia today.
“Nico’s desire is to retire at River but he won’t interrupt the contract with the City,” Sendoa told TyC.
“At 34 he could return to Argentina and close his career at the Millonario, but we still had no contact and nobody spoke to us.
“If Gallardo calls him, Nico doesn’t even doubt it, he comes. He dies to play for River.”
But it looks like the Manchester City player didn’t really like the attention. He’s been interviewed by La Red (via Olé) soon after the quotes came out, and made sure to explain that a move isn’t close at all.
“I am a River fan. Martín is my friend, but not my representative. Jorge Mendes is. I don’t want to embarrass Gallardo or River. I have two years of contract at Manchester City and my head is set here, to fulfil it. My family, my children are happy. Then it will be seen.
“It’s complicated because my children have been in Europe for ten years, with other customs. I’d love to be here with my parents and take mates, but it’s a sacrifice that must be made. It’s tempting about River fans, to send me messages. I’m a fan, but I’m fine here and important games are coming. I’m focused on the club, being professional. I didn’t talk to people from River, or anything. I don’t want to put them in trouble.”
