Manchester City signed João Cancelo from Juventus in the summer transfer window and as a part of the deal, allowed Danilo to move in the opposite direction.

The Turin club were in the market looking for another fullback and reports have suggested they had set their sights on Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Italian website Calciomercato provides an update about the Old Lady’s interest in the 22-year-old and the report’s headline reads ‘Juventus, Zinchenko was very close: the background’.

Juve director of football Fabio Paratici courted the Ukraine international, but ended up ‘clashing’ with Pep Guardiola. It’s clear the former Barcelona manager had no plans to let the player leave.

This convinced Zinchenko to snub other offers he had on table and sign an extension with the English champions. He put pen to paper on a new deal on June 20th, meaning Juventus made an approach before that.

Following Fabian Delph’s move to Everton and Benjamin Mendy’s absence due to injury, Zinchenko is the first choice left-back at City this season even with the return of Angeliño from PSV Eindhoven for £11m.
