Travelling to Algiers straight after the 3-1 win over Manchester United for the international break, Riyad Mahrez was greeted by a swarm of journalists who wanted to get some quotes from the Manchester City forward.
One of the topics of discussion, which seemed important to the media present, was an incident that took place in the 59th minute of the derby, when Fernandinho, annoyed at the winger’s loss of possession, grabbed the Algeria international by the shirt and appeared to castigate him.
This, according to TSA Algerie, angered the Algerian fanbase, who didn’t appreciate the Brazilian’s behaviour towards his teammate.
However, when asked about it, Mahrez was very quick to defuse the situation.
He said: “No, no. It’s a normal reaction that’s part of football. He just told me: “Come on, come on”. There’s nothing serious between us. He’s a good teammate.”
This never appeared to be an issue in the English media, but Manchester City fans will surely be glad to know there isn’t any bad blood between the two players.
With Pep Guardiola’s side currently top of the Premier League table, the last thing the Spaniard will want is a couple of his squad members at each other’s throats.
