Manchester City are ‘very optimistic’ about securing Erling Haaland’s signature this summer as they have the money available to pay for him.

That’s according to journalist Quim Doménech, who says there is a growing belief at the Etihad that they will pull off the biggest deal of the summer transfer window.

Haaland’s future is set to be decided in the next few weeks, with his €75m release clause activating this year and all the big clubs keen on his signature.

Manchester City are one of them, and reports over the last weeks have indicated they are growing confident that they will beat the competition to the striker’s signature.

Doménech backs that up, stating during his appearance on El Chiringuito that “Manchester City are very optimistic about signing Haaland. It will be because they have that provision to pay.”

This is all somewhat backed up by Marca, who have their own coverage of Haaland today amid Real Madrid’s efforts to get him.

They say that the recent defeat to Barcelona has Madrid planning for the future, and while Kylian Mbappe is their number one aim, their other ‘big ambition’ is to sign Haaland.

They know Manchester City are also ‘fighting’ for his signature, and the pair seem to have been left alone by the other major players to battle it out for him.

Unfortunately for the Spanish side, things aren’t working out in their favour as the cost of signing Haaland and Mbappe is huge, even if they are set to get rid of the likes of Bale, Marcelo and Isco from their wage bill.

For them to afford both they will need to sell players first, which means they are at a disadvantage compared to Manchester City, who have the funds ready to go.

Perhaps it is that which is causing the confidence at the Etihad and to which Doménech is referring.

In truth, it all rests on Haaland and what he decides, but these two reports and numerous others in the last weeks have made it clear Manchester City believe they can win the race.
