This weekend, the Portuguese media came up with an interesting report regarding Manchester City’s interest in Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes.
It was claimed that following Pep Guardiola’s positive comments about the player, his name was mentioned in a lunch had by Lions’ officials with Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain.
That story was followed by several articles in the Portuguese press talking about Manchester City’s chase for Nunes, and now, even reports from Brazil are talking about it.
UOL columnist Bruno Andrade features a piece claiming Sporting have now set a price to sell the player in the summer, and that’s of a minimum €40m.
The piece points out that ‘more recently’, Nunes started being ‘evaluated with greater interest by Manchester City’. Then they highlight Pep Guardiola’s quotes from when he called the midfielder one of the ‘best in the world’.
Now as Sporting prepare for his sale, they know they have him well protected with a release clause worth €60m.
Other Premier League sides such as Newcastle have been linked to the player as well.
