Signing for Manchester City on the 25th of August from Barcelona, Claudio Bravo had to wait until the Manchester Derby to make his debut for his new club, which he came out of victorious.

Making a costly mistake by clattering into John Stones while reaching for a high ball, the Chilean goalkeeper allowed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to give Manchester United hope before the second half, but Pep Guardiola’s men held on.

Prior to this, the player, who is usually a mainstay for his country, did not take part in their 2018 World Cup qualifiers during the international break, allegedly for ‘family reasons’ according to the Chilean FA.

However, speaking to Radio ADN, relayed by RedGol, in Chile after Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Champions League, the 33-year-old revealed he was actually injured.

He said: “I had a sore calf. I turned up for the first few training sessions, then came this problem and I was out for nine days, and I couldn’t train, but hey, that’s behind us.”

Missing so much training ahead of the Manchester Derby would perhaps explain the rustiness the goalkeeper appeared to show when facing United, and Bravo looked far more comfortable against the Bundesliga side on Wednesday night.

The veteran goalkeeper also explained he is ‘happy’ with the new challenge presented to him, and was pleased with what the team had achieved over the past two games.
