As well as a new centre-back, Manchester United are in need a right-winger, preferably one capable of cutting in on his left foot.

While they do have Juan Mata, the Spaniard’s lack of pace doesn’t allow for great counter attacks, like, let’s say, a Nicolas Pépé would should the Ivorian end up at Manchester United.

However, someone who could do the job is Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa, whose great season in Serie A has attracted a lot of interest.

Corriere dello Sport believe both Manchester City and Manchester United are looking at the 21-year-old for the future, alongside other names such as Inter, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

With 10 goals and six assists in 24 appearances, Chiesa is putting up numbers many wingers would be proud of, and Fiorentina know they can cash in next summer, even if they’d prefer to keep him around.

Right now, a fee of around €60m could be enough, but that is likely to increase between now and June, likely putting him in the same ballpark as the aforementioned Pépé, for whom Lille have said €80m.

Both Manchester City and Manchester United have shown they would be willing to pay these amounts for the right player, but it remains to be seen if they think that highly of Chiesa.

Regarding what happens at Old Trafford, a lot will depend on who ends up managing the Red Devils next season.

As for Pep Guardiola’s side, they recently bought Riyad Mahrez, so perhaps that area isn’t their priority.

Chiesa is currently contracted to Fiorentina until 2022.
