Portuguese side Benfica continue having problems trying to extend Ruben Dias’ contract, as the defender is making some big demands before signing a new deal.
Newspaper O Jogo has a story about it today, and says that interest from big European clubs is having a heavy influence on the negotiations.
They say Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus have all been linked to the player, and that’s one of the reasons why he wants his salary doubled.
Dias currently makes €2m gross per season at Benfica, and believes that the wages he’s demanding could be paid by these big clubs who are interested in him.
We’ve been covering Dias’ renewal saga for a few months now, and although clubs like Manchester City and Manchester United keep getting a mention, we’re still to see reports of talks or bids for the defender.
At least this time it’s clear that the Premier League sides are being used as an argument so he can get a bigger increase in salary.
