Portuguese newspaper Record reported on Wednesday that Manchester City are getting closer to signing Joao Cancelo from Juventus, and that’s caused quite a fuss in Italy.
The right-back arrived at the Allianz Stadium from Valencia last summer and despite having four more years left on his contract, he’s been linked with a move away.
According to Il BiancoNero, the 24-year-old’s future remains uncertain even after Massimiliano Allegri’s departure from the club and Pep Guardiola’s side once again get a mention, along with Manchester United.
It’s claimed the domestic treble winners and the Red Devils have ‘long been on the trail’ of the Portugal international and his agent Jorge Mendes has been working on the defender’s case for ‘several weeks’.
The Italian website makes it clear that Cancelo is not short of suitors and if an offer in excess of €60m reach the office of the Turin club, then the Old Lady will assess it ‘very carefully’.
With Manchester City chasing the Juventus fullback, it looks like Danilo could be allowed to leave the Etihad, as long as a club appears with a reasonable off. Should Cancelo join the English champions, he will have to fight with Kyle Walker for a place in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, the report also states Juventus are looking at potential replacements for Cancelo, and Valencia’s Cristiano Piccini and Pedro Porro of Girona have emerged as targets.
