Manchester City have been repeatedly linked with taking Joao Felix from Benfica.
The 18 year old is receiving an increasing amount of attention in the Portuguese media, even though he’s not broken through to the club’s first team yet.
Claims of Pep Guardiola interest have been around for some time, and a few days ago we pointed out there’s now several sources saying Manchester City are keen, so there could be something in it.
But that doesn’t mean a transfer will go through, and unless there’s a big change in price it doesn’t really fit with the Premier League champions’ plans.
Jornal di Noticias say Benfica want to negotiate a transfer at a figure close to the youngster’s €60m release clause.
However, they also say the price won’t go below €40m and a deal could be arranged which sees the Lisbon club get a percentage of a future fee.
Given Manchester City paid less for Gabriel Jesus, and he was far more established and highly rated, then it just doesn’t sit right that they’d pay €40m+ for a player who would almost certainly need a loan and probably several years of such.
