The Premier League likes Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski. It really does.
After all, Liverpool were all about trying to sign him last summer, only to see him go from Udinese to their Serie A rivals instead, then Tottenham briefly popped up, and now Manchester City are keen on his services.
This is what Il Mattino are reporting on Monday, claiming that Pep Guardiola’s side have enquired about signing him, but only for next season.
Running lower on cash after already throwing around more than €200m in the transfer market, the Citizens asked Napoli about the Poland international, as talks between the two sides have been rife in recent weeks.
The main subject in all of this has primarily been Geronimo Rulli, the Real Sociedad goalkeeper who Manchester City are said to have a 30% sell-on clause on, but once that was sorted, more players were discussed.
Il Mattino state Napoli are looking at the Premier League side’s Ukrainian starlet, Oleksandr Zinchenko, who spent last season on loan with PSV Eindhoven, as a potential future recruit, and there’s hope a good relationship between the two sides could bear some fruit down the line.
So far, however, it’s all about Manchester City helping out Napoli, and Pep Guardiola’s side want something in return, which is where Piotr Zielinski comes in.
The Italian newspaper explain the agreement here would be that in the unlikely event of the Serie A side considering a sale, the Citizens would get a heads up, giving them an advantage on other sides.
You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours et cetera et cetera….
