Manchester City target Nuno Mendes is now ‘closer to the exit’ at Sporting, according to claims from Portugal today.
Newspaper Record features a story saying the Lisbon side are ‘ready to lose the youngster’ and are already preparing to sign another left-back.
It’s recalled that Mendes has been linked to most ‘sharks’ in European football, and that’s why the Lions recently renewed his contract and protected him with a €70m release clause.
And even though there are so many clubs after him, there’s only one named in the story, which is Manchester City.
The newspaper highlights the fact that Nuno Mendes could be used in the deal for Pedro Porro, who’s loaned to Sporting by Manchester City until 2022.
The Lions have an option to make the Spaniard’s move permanent for €8.5m, and Record points out this deal could be made along with Mendes’ transfer.
This isn’t the first time that Manchester City’s interest in Mendes is highlighted by the Portuguese media more than others. Last week, it was newspaper A Bola who detailed the club’s approach for the 18-year-old.
