It’s now been a couple of months since Manchester City and Sporting faced each other in the Champions League. On that occasion, Pep Guardiola made big praises towards Lions’ midfielder Matheus Nunes, and that created a big rumour about a potential transfer.
Despite the Portuguese media’s certainty about the chase, it had been a while since they had last talked about it.
Now this story is back today, as the Premier League side apparently continue to move for his signing.
Newspaper A Bola writes that Manchester City went to Lisbon at the weekend to watch Sporting’s match against Benfica, which was a game of ‘maximum demand’ where they could see how Nunes would do in those conditions.
The report claims that the evaluations made by Pep Guardiola’s side have been ‘absolutely satisfactory’ and there isn’t ‘any doubt’ about his potential transfer now.
Manchester City are said to be ‘perfectly informed’ about the price that it will take to sign Nunes from Sporting, as the Lions demand a minimum of €40m to let him go.
A Bola adds that the midfielder is only leaving the Lisbon side if moving to a club of big aspirations, such as European titles, otherwise he’d rather stay at his club.
Since that’s something the Cityzens can definitely offer him, then it’s clear they have a shot at the move, as long as they match the financial demand.
