The big sports news in Brazil this weekend was Jorge Jesus’ departure from Flamengo. After a very successful year at the club, the manager decided to take charge of Benfica once again.
Now the Rio de Janeiro side, who are the current champions of the Brazilian League and the Copa Libertadores, must find a big name to replace the Portuguese boss.
And according to UOL, they may have a chat with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola about that.
Columnist Mauro Cézar Pereira reports that Flamengo are interested in the signing of Domènec Torrent, who was Guardiola’s assistant for over ten years.
Torrent joined Manchester City along with Guardiola back in 2016, and left the club in 2018, when he took an offer to take charge of New York City FC. His time at the MLS side ended in November 2019, and he’s been unemployed since then.
As Flamengo are not in a hurry to sign a new manager, they’re now analysing the options, and sources both close to Guardiola and from Flamengo told Mauro Cezar Pereira that the Catalan boss could speak to the Brazilian side about Torrent.
