Man City in advanced negotiations with player – Likely a complicated signing

Nicolás De La Cruz struggled in his first two seasons at River Plate since joining them from Uruguayan side Liverpool Montevideo.

The 22-year-old’s fortunes changed this year as he’s managed seven goals and seven assists in all competitions while playing from midfield.

On November 29th, we covered various claims from Argentina that Manchester City are in talks with River Plate for De La Cruz.

Marca adds the player’s ability to adapt to Marcelo Gallardo’s system has caught Pep Guardiola’s attention.

The Premier League winners are more than interested in the Uruguayan as the report states he has already held serious talks with the Etihad club’s emissaries.

De La Cruz has a €22m release clause and it’s claimed City ‘will offer’ a little more so that they can reach a figure of €25m for him. However, River Plate want in excess of €25m for their prized asset.

That makes little sense, but it’s likely related to the player’s complicated ownership.

Marca adds the negotiation between City and De La Cruz is ‘more than advanced’ and River Plate could struggle to retain him.
