Birmingham is being seen as an ideal cold weather venue as RCD Mallorca kick off their pre-season there, however, it appears the city has been even colder than some expected.
The La Liga side are staying at Lea Marston Hotel in Sutton Coldfield, which is close to Aston Villa’s training ground. That’s been picked on purpose as they’ll today be at Aston Villa’s facilities for a friendly against Crewe Alexandra.
They then face Barnsley, and it’s all a run up to the biggest match of the trip, against West Brom on Saturday. Mallorca are only here for a week and it’s seen as intense cold weather training leading up to that West Brom match.
The temperature in Mallorca is set to hover around 30°C for the next week, whereas in Sutton Coldfield it’ll be around 20°C. That’s quite a difference and it was noticed immediately, reports Diario de Mallorca.
They state that upon departing their coach at the hotel, an unnamed member of the travelling party said: “It’s so cold here!”
The newspaper go with a headline saying ‘Mallorca arrives in cold Bimringham’
It’s not all negative though, as they do add the players will be in ‘beautiful Warwickshire countryside’.
