PSV Eindhoven’s stars are ‘very proud’ at star Cody Gakpo being linked to the likes of Liverpool this summer.
That’s according to teammates Armando Obispo and Jordan Teze, who insist that it is ‘great’ their teammate is being linked with such a high-profile club.
Gakpo has been in fine form for the Dutch side this season, with a tally of 13 goals and 13 assists in 33 games in all competitions so far.
That’s taken him to 34 goals and 31 assists in 121 games for PSV since he was moved up from their U19 side in July 2018, numbers that have seemingly not gone unnoticed by the rest of Europe.
Liverpool were named as suitors earlier this year, with it reported in the Netherlands that they have already held ‘exploratory talks’ with the forward over a potential move this summer.
That was followed by PSV chief John de Jong revealing he does not know how long the club can keep hold of their prized asset, further adding to the belief he could be on the move sooner rather than later.
Whether that’s to Liverpool remains to be seen, particularly after they signed Luiz Diaz in the January transfer window, but it seems his teammates are happy to see him being linked nonetheless.
“Of course, that makes us very proud,” Obispo told Voetbal International.
“To be honest, I did expect that he would become so good, but not that his development would go so fast that he could already show it at the Dutch national team. But we are on the pitch with him every day; we know what Cody can do.”
“Cody is having a good season, and we still have some way to go,” added Teze.
“There are good things coming for him. It’s great that his name is being linked with big clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool. That’s an example of how we want it in the end.”
