Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly has insisted he is happy to see former club Napoli shining without him.
The defender brought an end to an eight-year spell at Napoli in the summer when he moved to Chelsea in a £34.2m deal.
He made 317 appearances for the Italian club in that time, establishing himself as a firm fan favourite under several managers and winning the Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia in 2014 and 2020 respectively.
Unfortunately for the defender he has been quickly forgotten at his former club, who swiftly moved on following his sale in the summer.
The arrival of defender Kim min-Jae has filled the hole he left behind and Napoli have not looked back, topping Serie A after eight games of the season and sitting top of Group A in the Champions League with three wins from three games.
“I watched the game against Ajax, they are playing very well, and I am really happy for them,” Il Mattino report the Chelsea defender saying.
“I spoke to some of my former teammates and Luciano Spalletti, I am happy with what they are doing. They are playing a great championship and also a great Champions League.
“I didn’t expect to see them like this, but I have seen in recent weeks some of my former teammates who have grown up and no longer need me, this makes me happy.
“I hope they can continue like this and go far for a long time. But for the championship I don’t want to say anything, because we in Naples are a bit superstitious. I hope they can continue like this for a long time.”
