Rangers loanee Ianis Hagi made a dream start to his Rangers career last night after scoring against Hibernian.

Loaned from Belgian club Genk at the end of the last transfer window, the 21 year old scored the vital goal against Hibs to keep Steven Gerrard’s title dreams alive, and his performance has caused a huge reaction in his home country Romania.

Speaking about Hagi to Digisport, former Steaua Bucharest manager Nicolae Dica, who knew him for five years, said that the player will take advantage of the chance offered to him by Gerrard and Rangers. “He had a few bad spells abroad, most notably Belgium and Italy. When he arrived in Scotland people doubted him, that he’d fail, because the league is very physical. I don’t think it’s true. I think he will do very well at Rangers.”

He added: “He’s a smart player. With the ball at his feet, he could make all the difference. He thinks fast. He always has a plan before the ball comes to him.”

Rangers have the option to buy Hagi for €5m at the end of his loan spell, and if he continues to produce moments like last night there’s a chance he could become a permanent fixture at Ibrox.

His late winner keeps Rangers within touching distance of leaders Celtic in the race for the  Scottish Premiership title. Gerrard’s side are seven points behind their local rivals but have a game in hand.
