Set to face Rangers in Scotland on Thursday, Lyon had to fight tooth and nail to get ensure all their players were available for the Ibrox clash.

L’Equipe on Wednesday explain the Ligue 1 side struggled ‘until the very last minute’ to find a solution, as four of their players could have potentially missed the clash.

Two of those were Brazilian, as Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes both returned from Brazil less than 10 days ago, but UEFA gave them the green light after Lyon ‘threatened to ask for the match to be rescheduled for health reasons’.

The other two were Jason Denayer and Xherdan Shaqiri, who were told they would have to quarantine when returning from Scotland, which would have meant they would have been unable to face both Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday and the following game against Lorient.

However, since both contracted Covid-19 in recent times and have since recuperated, which Lyon were able to prove, they were given the green light to travel, meaning Lyon’s squad will be at full capacity to face Steven Gerrard’s men on Thursday at Ibrox.

A tougher prospect for Rangers, then.
