Sunderland loan player Adnan Januzaj is generating interest from Ligue 1 club Lyon, reports L’Equipe.
Lyon are reportedly looking to make offensive reinforcements in January, and have a view to replacing Rachid Ghezzal. In this process they’ve identified the Manchester United owned player as a target.
L’Equipe say Gerard Houllier has contacted former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal to know more about Januzaj. The Dutchman’s response has not been shared.
It’s been reported Houllier also had the chance to speak about the situation of Memphis Depay, but signing the Dutchman could be financially complicated for Lyon.
Januzaj has been a regular for Sunderland this season, but hasn’t really been performing well for David Moyes’ side.
It remains to be seen if Manchester United have the provision to call him back early, because, even if Januzaj isn’t hitting the heights of his form, it’s unlikely Sunderland would want to part ways with him in the middle of the season.
L’Equipe claim Lyon also have other targets in mind should they find it difficult to strike a deal with Manchester United. If Lyon are serious on Januzaj then it’s probably best they talk to Manchester United, and maybe Sunderland, rather than Van Gaal.
The opinion of Adnan Januzaj and his father will be critical to any possible Sunderland exit.
