Earlier on Wednesday, we relayed news of Aston Villa’s interest in Ligue 2 midfielder Guessouma Fofana, with reports emerging from France that Steve Bruce’s side had enquired with his entourage about a possible move to Villa Park.
This, if true, shows intent from the Championship side to try and bolster their squad for the second half of the season, as they attempt to climb up the table, currently 12th after 25 games.
However, it’s not only in midfield that Villa are looking to sign players, but also in defence, with 19-year-old Luxembourg international Enes Mahmutovic being handed a trial from the 5th to the 7th of January with Aston Villa’s U23s.
The news comes directly from his current club, CS Fola Esch in Luxembourg, with the player’s emergence in their first-team clearly not going unnoticed.
Th young defender, who can play across the back four, has been used mostly at right-back this season, making 14 appearances for CS Fola so far, and even made an appearance for his national team back in 2016 during his country’s 3-1 World Cup qualifier loss to the Netherlands.
If he impresses, we can only imagine that Aston Villa will want to integrate him as soon as possible, and we’ll be keeping an eye on how well he does over the coming week, with news of a transfer to England likely to be rather big news over in Luxembourg.
