Leicester City ‘heavily’ interested in Olympiacos captain Luka Milivojevic

Leicester’s chances of keeping the Premier League title have probably ended already after they only won 3 games of the opening 11. Manager Claudio Ranieri is apparently looking to add to his team, with Luka Milivojevic an option.

Over recruitment in the summer may well be one of the reasons for the slow start. But if the latest Ranieri claimed interest is correct, there’s going to be more on the way in January.

The big Leicester loss was selling N’Golo Kante to Chelsea, and the club then brought Nampalys Mendy in from Nice, but the 24 year old has been held back with injury issues.

Just when it was thought he was recently returning, the Frenchman suffered yet another setback.

So into the potential transfer picture comes Luka Milivojevic, a 25 year old Serbian defensive midfielder, with the claims coming via Sport24 in Greece.

Luka Milivojevic

Milivojevic has been superb for Olmypiacos since signing for them in 2014, hence being captain. It’s only a matter of time before the midfielder leaves to test himself in a harder league, and no doubt get a much bigger pay packet.

Olympiacos officials are expecting a January bid from Leicester City and initial talks have already started, most specifically in London.

The Greek side don’t want to lose Luka Milivojevic, so it’s not in their interest to talk up a move. It would be a strange transfer rumour to pluck from thin air for the Greek media, which may suggest there’s actually something in this one.

Recruiting from Greek football isn’t the most obvious option for Premier League clubs. However, Leicester have shown in recent years that they’re prepared to be creative when looking for targets, casting their net wider than some others.

Luka Milivojevic to Leicester City doesn’t sound like the craziest idea on the face of it, and it’s certainly a story we’ll be keeping an eye on.
