Woe is Hamburg. That’s the theme of a SportBild double page spread in their edition this week. The Bundesliga club had transfer dreams, but they’ve all been torn to shreds by cold hard reality.
SportBild explain that Hamburg have seen target after target slip away from their grasp, for reasons including money, prestige, money, waiting too long, and, mostly, money.
Hamburg are finding it hard to compete financially for the players they want, which means their summer window has so far been a big disappointment.
SportBild explain: ‘For Georges-Kévin N’Koudou, HSV had a number too small. Just like Dortmund’s defensive all-rounder Matthias Ginter. There are now available more lucrative offers from Wolfsburg, Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham United.’
We’re not entirely whether the Tottenham reference is to N’Koudou or Ginter, so will leave Spurs to the side for now.
22 year old Ginter is right footed and can play as a central defender, right back, or in defensive midfield.
The Dortmund player hasn’t travelled on his club’s pre-season tour to China, with Ruhr Nachrichten saying he’s suffering from an infection. Eyebrow duly raised.
