Brazilian winger Lucas Moura had three new experiences last night. First one was his debut for Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley, and it was quite a good one, as he made two assists in the club’s 6-1 win over Rochdale for the FA Cup.
The second novelty for him was playing a game where the VAR was used, something that happened a few times last night.
Moura was interviewed by ESPN Brasil right after the match, and claimed that he didn’t really like the experience: “To be honest, for me, I think it was terrible. For two reasons: firstly because it stops the game all the time. And second because of the cold. We have to wait, each stop had three, four minutes.”
“I think it was very confusing there, the referee. Anyway, this first impression was not good. I think it was the first game I played with this technology. And I think it was not cool. I think it stops the game a lot, it ties it up a lot.”
With a lot of snow and a temperature below zero, the weather in London was also something new for the player. But even though he claims it was hard for him to play in those conditions, the win ended up being worth the effort.
“It’s very difficult. First time I played with so much snow like that. Even more as Brazilian, used to heat, it’s very difficult. My finger was almost falling (laughs). But it was cool, I think it was an important result. We have the goal of winning this cup. And even more that I just arrived, so I want to win, I want to conquer, I want to make my story here.”
Moura also talked about how comfortable he’s feeling at Tottenham after a hard time he’s lived in France, where he wasn’t having any chances to play.
“I think it also has to do with the reception I had here. They all welcomed me with open arms. Both the technical staff and the players. So that made me very comfortable, very happy about it. The most important thing is that I am very happy.
“I spent a very difficult seven months at PSG, I was not playing, I was training and going home, so it’s difficult for a player. So when that opportunity to play in a big team like Tottenham came, and when I got here I saw the facilities and the players, it got me very excited. So that’s how I said, very happy about it.”
