It seems Lucas Alario will finally be ready to leave River Plate and join a European club in the summer. Alario was linked to Tottenham and Liverpool ahead of the winter transfer window, with Mauricio Pochettino said to be especially interested in his compatriot.

The suggestion of a move out of Argentina was made by the player’s agent Pedro Aldave, who speaking to Tutto Mercato Web on Monday explained the striker’s situation.

“Alario is definitely ready for the jump to Europe,” said Aldave. “He is currently the best prospect of Argentine football, young and an EU citizen, already in the national team. What else?”

“That’s right. There are many teams interested, every time he enters the pitch there are scouts following him from around the world. River Plate, however, are not willing to sell him at this time, so the operation is very difficult.”

Alario links both to Liverpool and to Tottenham Hotspur became quite excitable and talk of approaches being made was an exaggeration of the situation. Despite interest from several European sides, no one has ever been able to find an agreement with River Plate.

With seven goals in 16 games this season, the 24-year-old remains a key player for the Argentine side, and just like the agent said he should not be leaving the club so easily. Especially with the Libertadores now running until the end of the year, River will not want to let one of their stars go during the competition.

It’s nothing Tottenham or Liverpool couldn’t solve financially, should they so wish.
