Leeds United have given a trial to NK Celje forward Mitja Krizan, which is causing some excitement in the Slovenia media. Krizan is contracted to NK Cejge until June 2019, having joined them from NK Aluminij in the summer transfer window.

Ekipa24 have reported on Krizan’s involvement in Leeds United’s U23 clash with Shamrock Rovers at the weekend. The 19-year-old started the game for Leeds, but couldn’t stop his side losing to their Irish opponents.

Krizan excelled at youth level scoring 36 goals in 56 games before making the step up to senior teams. However, the forward has found games hard to come by at NK Celje, making just five appearances from the bench this season.

The youngster is the son of former Barnsley, and Slovenia international, defender Ales Krizan and the link is a big reason for the excitement in Slovenia with it being wondered if the younger Krizan can emulate his father.

It may be a big ask for Krizan to impress Leeds United enough to earn a permanent contract. Turning 20 years of age in June, Krizan would have to be good enough to show real signs he could make Garry Monks’ Leeds team within the next few years.
