While it hasn’t officially been announced yet, the general consensus is that Mattéo Guendouzi will no longer be an Arsenal player after this season.
Sent on loan to Marseille for the season, the midfielder, unlike William Saliba, had an option to buy that could make the move permanent.
The conditions to do so appear to have been met, and many expect the announcement from either the Ligue 1 club or Arsenal to arrive sooner rather than later.
It might even happen after the season ends, but the way Guendouzi is speaking about his time and future at Marseille leaves very little to the imagination these days.
The player was recently honoured by the French club’s fans, who displayed a ‘Mentality Let Nothing Go Like Guendouzi’ banner to thank the France international for his determination and grit on the pitch, which have been key in Jorge Sampaoli’s system throughout the campaign.
With Marseille currently second and well on their way to qualifying for the Champions League, the player has his eyes set on the future, which appears to be far away from Arsenal.
Asked about the banner after the game, he said, relayed by Le10 Sport: “It’s lovely. It’s what I try and do on the pitch. Regardless of the game, regardless of the result, I try and give everything for the team, so that we keep pushing and we have the results that suit us.
“It shows that I have a good mentality and that I will always be there for the team, the club and the fans.”
