ESPN Brasil features this week a long interview with Everton midfielder Allan.
The 31-year-old, who’s today featuring in the Toffees’ trip to play Newcastle United, talked a lot about the ups and downs his club has been having this season, and the importance of beating the Magpies to stay in a safer position in the Premier League table.
The trust in Everton’s recovery this season has a lot to do with the arrival of manager Frank Lampard, and speaking about the new coach, Allan talked about the good impressions he’s already having on him.
“Lampard’s arrival was very important. It was where it stirred a little with the pride of all the players. Where everyone wants to demonstrate, everyone wants to do a little more than what they’ve been doing. And he came up with a really good game idea. A coach who likes to have the ball, who likes to defend high, who likes to command the match. And that I think is important,” Allan told ESPN Brasil.
“We try to assimilate as quickly as possible. And for us, who are midfielders, as you said, it’s a little easier. Having the tips from a guy who dominated the position for many years, who had a winning career. So we try to adapt as quickly as possible so that we can always be playing good games, training well, preparing well.”
Allan was also asked about his future. The midfielder did not tease with an exit from the club, and actually made it clear that he dreams of winning titles with Everton at some point.
“We get to a certain age, we have to start planning our career. What I have on my mind is to stay a lot longer here at Everton. As long as I can, as long as the club thinks I can add something on the pitch. So what I have on my mind right now is to continue my career in the Premier League. Make good games, good tournaments and God willing, that I can, suddenly, in a little cup like these, we can win something and leave the name written in the history of Everton.”
Signed by the Toffees on a €26.2m move from Napoli in the summer of 2020, the Brazilian has a contract with the Goodison Park side running until 2023.
