Liverpool star Fabinho has told ESPN in Brazil the Reds still maintain hope of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Real Madrid eliminated Jürgen Klopp’s side from Europe’s elite club competition this season last month, leaving the latter with only a top four finish to make it to the Champions League.
Liverpool are currently eighth in the table with 47 points from 30 games and are nine points behind fourth placed Newcastle United.
The Merseyside club have eight games left to play this season and they not only need to pick up maximum points in each of those fixtures but also hope teams ahead of them drop points.
Fabinho has constantly played in the Champions League since he arrived at Anfield from AS Monaco in 2018. The Brazil international has admitted it would be hard for Liverpool to miss out from the top European club competition next season.
“The Champions League has been a very special competition for us. Since Alisson and I got here, we’ve played every year, we’ve reached two finals, we’ve won one,” he said.
“It’s a special competition for us, for the fans. The atmosphere at Anfield on a Champions League night is different. And I believe that the big clubs and the big players have to be playing in this competition all the time.”
“As hard as it is, I don’t think about Liverpool not playing in the Champions League. It will be a different reality, but as long as there is hope, we will try and do our best.”
Fabinho was part of the Liverpool squad that won the Champions League in 2019 and lost to Real Madrid in the final last season.
