Davy Klaassen is a new Everton player for a fee of €28.5m, and he’ll be earning more than €4m per season on a five year contract. The figures don’t quite hit the €30m and €100k a week that De Telegraaf were originally hoping for on behalf of Ajax and Klaassen, but there’s probably pleasant surprise Everton went so close.
De Telegraaf have detailed Klaassen’s big day at Everton, which didn’t involve manager Ronald Koeman. The Dutchman is at his home in Portugal, but spoke to Klaassen some time earlier to seal a deal.
The whole experience is made to sound like some kind of football dream: ‘Everton made an unforgettable impression on Davy Klaassen on the first day’
The player’s agent Soren Lerby is quoted as saying: “It was a long but beautiful day, Davy is very happy with this deal.”
Klaassen left The Hague airport on Thursday morning in a jet provided by Everton. After arriving in the city, and flying over Goodison Park, Klaassen received a tour of the stadium.
In the knowledge that Everton and Ajax had already agreed a transfer fee, Klaassen had a medical at The Spire.
Whilst this was going on, Lerby was in negotiations finalising personal terms, on a €4m contract which is fourfold Klaassen’s Ajax wage. The midfielder will now, explain De Telegraaf, choose whether to live in Liverpool or Cheshire’s ‘golden triangle’.
Quite the day.
