Most of the Portuguese newspapers are today reporting Benfica’s negotiations for Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin.
The Eagles are said to be in advanced talks to sign the Spaniard, and are expected to pay around €10m to bring him to Lisbon. Correio da Manhã is one of the outlets who report it, and also brings some interesting claims on Liverpool.
They say that Martin would be arriving to Benfica as a replacement to Grimaldo, whose destination would be Anfield.
They are not stating that 22 year old Grimaldo is joining the Reds immediately. But when speaking of his ‘eventual exit’, that would be ‘namely Liverpool’.
The rumours linking Grimaldo to Jurgen Klopp’s side have been out this week, coming from not the most reliable part of the English press. The player is indeed expected to leave Benfica this summer, with most of the papers linking him to a Napoli move.
Now it’s hard to know if Correio da Manhã knows something about Liverpool or if they were just replicating the recent stories. Considering Grimaldo’s potential, this is a rumour to keep an eye on.
Liverpool were also linked with Alex Grimaldo in December.
