With claims from the English media saying Tottenham Hotspur are not using the buying option to sign Carlos Vinícius from Benfica, the Portuguese press has been giving a big reaction to it.

Even though there’s a little disappointment that the Eagles won’t make €40m with the sale, the fact they’ll have the striker back from the loan is seen as a positive factor.

Outlet Record first posted a story recalling that Jorge Jesus has been in need of a centre-forward since February, since his players for the position hasn’t been prolific goalscorers this season.

They later managed an interview with Luís Neves, the scout who found Carlos Vinícius in Brazil and took him to Portugal. He recalled the striker’s potential in his first years, and claimed he should still be important for Benfica.

“Vinícius is tremendously aggressive, especially against centre-backs, when he’s the other way around; he’s quick to attack from depth; he hits hard on goal; he has midfield qualities there; he’s very strong in looking for the ball,” Neves told Record.

“Jesus is, for me, the best coach within the four lines of our country. I have a tremendous admiration for him. But attention, he’s very demanding, if a player doesn’t give the best… for some reason he had scored goals in the previous season and didn’t stay for this current one.

“It’s also certain that there’s no one better than Jesus to polish this player, to give him even more shine and to make him a better player than what he already is. Jesus will make him score goals. If Jesus wants, we have another Vinícius in a year.”

In 22 appearances for Tottenham, Carlos Vinícius has 10 goals in three assists so far. The club are still to confirm if he’s indeed returning to Benfica at the end of the season.
