One of the rumours that refuses to go away, Emre Can leaving Liverpool for Juventus picked up even more pace on Tuesday thanks to Tuttosport, who claimed Naby Keita’s early arrival could help the Serie A champions get their man earlier than anticipated.
Of course, this is just a case of 2+2=5 for now, as there’s no guarantee the RB Leipzig midfielder will be allowed to move to Anfield in January, and the Italian side might not be interested in spending any money on the German midfielder, who they can get on a free in next summer, providing he doesn’t renew his contract to stay with Jürgen Klopp.
There are a lot of hypotheticals here, but that hasn’t stopped Corriere dello Sport from sounding fairly confident Juventus will sign Emre Can next summer.
They briefly discuss the January scenario despite not being totally convinced by it, yet when it comes to him moving to Turin in June, they see it as pretty much done.
They write: “The interest in the Liverpool midfielder is still alive and could get done in the winter transfer window by speeding things up regarding the eventuality of next summer, when the German international should become a bianconero”.
Considering Emre Can has had more than a few opportunities to sign a new Anfield contract, and hasn’t, you can understand Corriere’s confidence in the matter.
Sport Witness’ gut feeling has always been that the 23-year-old is simply to see if things progress under Jürgen Klopp following last season’s Champions League qualification before he puts pen to paper.
With Liverpool out of the EFL Cup, struggling in Europe and seventh in the Premier League (albeit after just seven games), things aren’t off to the best of starts.
