When Makro Grujic signed for Liverpool from Red Star Belgrade in 2016 there was some excitement.
The youngster was rated very highly in Serbia and unlike some who had made the leap before him, it was thought Grujic had the level to succeed at a much higher level.
Unsurprisingly he’s had his struggles and is now on his third loan, if the return to Red Star is included.
Still only 22 years of age, there’s plenty of time for the midfielder to make it at Anfield and whilst that is undoubtedly his aim, there’s no rush from the player’s perspective.
Currently with Hertha Berlin for the season, Grujic is having a good period. Whilst in good form in September, an ankle injury disrupted matters, but he’s back and put in a great performance against Hannover 96 at the weekend, as Hertha won 2-0.
The German club are set to face Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, and ahead of the match SportBild brought Grujic and weekend rival Luka Jovic together for a few words.
Of interest to Liverpool, is Grujic’s comments on his future: “In the long term I would like to prevail at Liverpool. But if we qualify for the Europa League with Hertha, I see a good chance that I will stay one more year.”
With the Serbian having a contract with the Reds until 2023, there’s no pressure in that regard and another season out may work well for all involved.
