With just 49 league appearances in more than three seasons, Marc Muniesa has failed to fully establish himself at Stoke City since his move from Barcelona.
The Spanish defender clearly isn’t a first choice option for Mark Hughes, and it might be the right time for him to consider his future at the Premier League club.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Real Betis are keen on signing the former Barcelona defender. Muniesa has a contract until 2019 at Stoke City, and could leave on loan.
However, Muniesa started the last game for Stoke City and kept a clean sheet against Watford, after Ryan Shawcross was ruled out with an injury.
It’s unlikely Hughes would drop either of Shawcross or Bruno Martins Indi to accommodate Muniesa, but might want to keep him as a back-up option, at least until the end of the season.
As things stand, a move away from Stoke in the summer looks more likely, and Muniesa may be hoping to turn things around before then and make a better go of life in the Premier League.
