Liverpool are in picture to sign Inter Milan star Nicolò Barella, according to claims from Italy.
The Nerazurri improved their finances by selling Romelu Lukaku and Acharaf Hakimi in 2021, but there is still a ‘heavy liability’ of €140m.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who state the Serie A side will not solve their finances even if their chairman, Steven Zhang, invests inject ‘€100m of liquidity’. Therefore, the club will need at least one big sale between January and next summer.
At the San Siro, no player is ‘untouchable’ and this includes the Italy international, who is of interest to Liverpool, Alessandro Bastoni and Lisandro Martínez. Simone Inzaghi’s side can improve their finances if they manage to sell one of the trio.
It’s said there is ‘concrete’ interest in Barella, Bastoni and Martínez from top clubs across Europe. The Merseyside club are mentioned for the midfielder as the report states he is ‘very popular’ in the Premier League.
Liverpool could take advantage of Inter’s financial needs and try to bring Barella to the club. Calciomercato.it don’t mention the fee the Serie A side will demand for the 25-year-old.
