Liverpool’s injury crisis has been a theme of their season. Jurgen Klopp has been struggling with several defenders out this campaign, the biggest problem being the loss of Virgil van Dijk.
The weekend not only brought frustration with a 2-0 defeat to Everton at Anfield, but also saw an injury to Jordan Henderson. There’s no clarity over when the midfielder-turned-defender will be back, and Klopp wasn’t very optimistic when speaking about his captain after the painful loss.
The Reds’ injury curse is now spreading to loan players, with Taiwo Awoniyi picking up a muscle issue whilst with Union Berlin.
Sky Germany don’t give a concrete time for the 23-year-old attacker to be out, but they say it’s going to be ‘weeks’ rather than days.
Awoniyi is on his seventh loan away from Liverpool, who he has a contract with until June 2023. So far this season he’s scored five times and added three assists, in 19 matches with the Bundesliga club.
