It seems that Liverpool will really have to raise their bid to take Gelson Martins from Sporting, otherwise their agreement with the player will be in vain.

As reported by Correio da Manhã last Saturday, the winger would be very tempted to make the move after being offered a salary of €5m per season at Anfield. The problem is the Reds’ €30m is still far from enough to convince Sporting.

A proof of that is the way the very same Correio da Manhã are taking the claims about Arsenal interest today.

Crediting the Daily Mail, even though the report came from the Daily Star, the newspaper shows the Gunners would be ready to pay for the player’s €60m release clause, and bring him in as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

They recall their weekend’s report about Liverpool, saying the Reds will fall behind Arsenal if don’t raise their bid, which is still ‘far’ from what Sporting want.

By ruling out their own report to believe in a foreign one, Correio makes it clear that there’s no way Liverpool can get him for that amount.
