Liverpool are one of a handful of clubs who have been linked with a move for AS Monaco youngster Kylian Mbappe. The links go back to the beginning of this year, with Liverpool one of several clubs thrown in as interested.
In February it was stated that Liverpool had made ‘concrete steps’ to sign Mbappe, who was coming to the end of his Monaco contract. The French principality club convinced Mbappe to remain with them and renew, and that may have been the end of the issue.
However, the 17 year old’s father has spoken to L’Equipe, who publish his comments in their Thursday edition, in an article detailing the youngster’s frustration since renewing. Mbappe was apparently led to believe he’d get chances, even at his age, but it hasn’t really happened and the family are frustrated.
L’Equipe mention interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, and PSG, and then quote Wilfrid Mbappe as saying: “This is also why I do not really understand the strategy.
“I do not see what they have to gain from this situation that creates more frustration. It does not make Kylian happy and it shows on his face during the week.
“Some will say he is only seventeen years old, needs to calm down, but it’s not impatience, because the club themselves said he would play. As he needs at his age, there will be a reflection ahead of the winter transfer window.”
There’s more than a hint of a possible transfer, at the same time as a veiled threat to Monaco. It’ll be interesting to see how the club take it.
