To say that Wednesday’s clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool in the Champions League is hugely important for both teams would be a slight exaggeration.

Should the French team win, then the Reds would still be on six points with a home game to go against Napoli.

However, were Jürgen Klopp’s men to pull off a win against Thomas Tuchel’s stars, and the Italians see off Red Star, Paris Saint-Germain could end up all but eliminated in the group stages.

Le Parisien take a look at what this would mean for the Ligue 1 champions, and it’s not pretty.

While Tuchel’s job isn’t at stake due to his recent arrival how highly regarded he is within the club, Antero Henrique, their director of football, isn’t as lucky.

The French newspaper explain that many feel this could be the Portuguese chief’s last season with the club, as his inability to bring in a defensive midfielder has perplexed many, regardless of the self-imposed FFP issues.

Furthermore, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club’s president, is said to be ‘worked up’ about the situation, and that the game against Liverpool could be a ‘turning point’ for Paris Saint-Germain with a ‘lot at stake’.

After all, should a club of their stature fall at the first hurdle, especially after their hugely expensive acquisitions, many will start to question if they’ll ever be able to win the competition they covet so much.

For example, Neymar has only scored three goals in the Champions League for Paris Saint-Germain, and they all came in the Red Star dismantling this year.

Hardly the return you want from a €222m experienced forward, is it?
