The Catalan media, specifically Mundo Deportivo, are not letting go of their insistence that three clubs are interested in signing Jasper Cillessen from Barcelona.
Once again it’s been claimed Liverpool, Napoli and Atletico Madrid want the goalkeeper, and once again it’s stated Barcelona have no intention to sell.
As we suggested the last time of the claims, a few days ago, it all seems a plan to big up Cillessen and reward him for good performances by making him a star, despite being reserve goalkeeper, and claiming Liverpool and others want him.
Mundo Deportivo say the only way Barcelona would see the back of the players is if a club pays the €60m buyout clause, in which case there’d be nothing they can do about it.
Liverpool haven’t yet ‘presented any offer’ for Cillessen, and the same goes for the other two clubs named.
If any club did go near that €60m clause then Barcelona’s board would collectively be doing cartwheels down Las Ramblas. Such a figure for a reserve goalkeeper would be a stroke of transfer genius, and allow Barca to sooth many of their current financial worries.
Despite what’s claimed we reckon that’d be the case at anything over €40m, maybe €30m too.
Perhaps this is getting to the stage of ‘doth protest too much’ and Mundo Deportivo have an elaborate plan to help Barcelona sell Cillessen, to Liverpool or elsewhere, for a big fee.
