Monday was an exciting day in football, as we got the draws for both the Champions League and Europa League knockout rounds.

The outcome was an appetising set of fixtures, which included Liverpool having to overcome Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid if they wish to make it to the quarter finals and continue their quest to retain their trophy.

We all know what kind of challenge the Spanish club represent, known for their strong defending and ability to keep even the most exciting attacks at bay, which is exactly what they’ll be facing when Jürgen Klopp’s men come to town.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino will need to be neutralised in order for Atlético to stand a chance of overcoming Liverpool, but that’s something Mathias Pogba, the Manchester United midfielder’s brother, doesn’t see happening.

Once again a guest on El Chiringuito, the CD Manchego Real forward ended up in an argument with José Antonio Martín Otín, more commonly known as Petón, about the outcome of the two legs.

He said: “[Renan] Lodi is going to stop Salah? Lodi won’t put in one cross. He’ll be too focused on Salah. He’ll be knackered.”

Petón then countered that if Atlético Madrid brought in Marcos Alonso from Chelsea, then they would stand a chance, which Pogba all but laughed at.

He continued: “He’s worse, because Marcos Alonso likes attacking. Lodi is better defensively than Marcos Alonso. And if you stop Salah, there’s Mané, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Naby Keita (…) Liverpool will crush Atlético. We’ll see. I’ll call you. If I’m wrong, I’ll admit it. Get ready, my friend. I’m just saying what I think, like everyone here. Liverpool will crush Atlético Madrid.”

It’s on…
